Trip to St. Augustine for Girls On The Run

We recently did a quick trip to St. Augustine so that Morgan could run in the Girls On The Run 5K. She has worked so hard to be able to do this run so we went all out with a quick little hotel stay and some sightseeing. We didn’t have too much time but we’re planning to go back in June so are planning to see the historic sections and beaches then. For now, we spent our time at the World Golf Village and surrounding area.

I chose a hotel that was near the World Golf Village and outlet malls and went with a franchised hotel brand that I was familiar with. The room was a great size and had a mini-fridge/microwave and a pullout sleeper sofa that was actually pretty comfortable. The hotel had a great breakfast buffet that we enjoyed the morning of the race to give Morgan that extra fuel that she would need.

We spent most of our free time at the pool and had dinner Friday night at St. Mary’s Seafood and More, a wonderful seafood restaurant that was near the hotel. The food was amazing and it was surprisingly affordable!

The Race was great.   The venue was beautiful and was centered a lake where each school lined up to do the check-in process.

The race itself took about a half hour total for all of the runners to come thru and then they did a little post-race celebration with bouncy houses, face painting and more.  Morgan came in towards the end of the race but she did amazing and I am SO PROUD of her.  Girls On The Run is not just about running a race, but it’s a program that works to strengthen elementary age girls social, emotional, physical and behavioral skills to successfully navigate life experiences.

We opted to go back to the hotel for another afternoon of pool time. 🙂

Needless to say, we are looking forward to going back in June to visit with friends and explore the historic sites and beaches.  🙂
