Do you celebrate Chinese New Year? This year, it will be on January 25th and is the “Year of the Rat”. Preparations for the new year begin on February 12th, 2021, and last until New Years Eve.
A wonderful way for families to learn about other cultures is by celebrating significant holidays from around the world with food. Throughout the Chinese New Year celebration, different dishes “surrounding the stove” are prepared with symbolic significance in mind: noodles for longevity, oranges for wealth, whole chicken for family togetherness and whole fish for prosperity. One of my favorite dishes to try are egg rolls and they are great because look like gold bullion bars so they are a great symbol for wealth. While these may not be traditional egg roll recipes, they are recipes that your family are sure to love!
