Additives, toxins, stress, fear, war! These are all things that we are regularly exposed to in modern life, either directly or indirectly. Of course, the havoc that they can wreak on our systems is enormous, and they can affect not only our mood but also our mental and physical health as well. Luckily, there are some ways that you can detox from the troubles of 21-century life, to find what they are, read the post below.
Meditate / yoga
One of the most accessible ways of detoxing from modern life is to establish a meditation practice into your daily routine. There are a vast range to choose from too, so the chances of finding something that fits well with your personality is high.
For example, those folks that find it difficult to sit still and meditate for 15 – 30 mins a day might do better with a more active meditation such as yoga, The 5 Rhythms, or Tai Chi. However, those with a more visual way of experiencing the world can often benefit from guided visualizations like the ones you will find below.
Of course, to get the real benefit from any type of mediation is vital to have the proper attitude. This, surprisingly to many people is not one of perfect focus and connection with the subject of meditation at all times, like the breath. Instead, it’s all about expecting that our minds will wander and then gently bringing them back whenever we catch them doing so.
Next, to truly detox from modern life it’s important to eat right as well. Now, we all know the lure of the fast food stand, and of course a little of what you fancy, now and then, does you no harm.
However, for the majority of the time, it’s pretty crucial that you eat well, and one of the best ways of doing this is to embrace clean eating.
Clean eating is less of a diet and more of a lifestyle, in fact, it does not emphasize the cutting out any major food group such as carbohydrates or fat. Instead, the focus is on eating unrefined, unprocessed foodstuffs, which have the highest nutritional loads.
What this means is that when consuming such foods your body gets everything it needs to be healthy both quickly and efficiently. Something that should have a positive knock-on effect on your health, energy levels, and weight.
Clean eating does, however, require you to remove or minimize two types of food in particular, although neither of these are essential to health. These two type of food are sugar in its refined form and hydrogenated fats. The latter being something that you can find out more about the health impact of here.
Food fasts are also becoming a more popular way of detoxing our bodies, and by the same vein, digital fasts may be something that can help cleanse our minds as well. A digital fast, for the uninitiated is the act of deliberately limiting access to your phone and other devices with the intention of becoming more present in your life.
That means bye-bye, smartphones and smartwatches, Sayōnara social media, and tschüss TV! Of course, doing such can be a real shock to the system when you first start off, but luckily there are other things that you can do with your time. In fact, you may even get to like not being at the mercy of your social media and devices all the time, and decide to do this more regularly.
Walks in nature
Another fabulous way of getting a detox from modern life is to dedicate some time for spending in nature. Whether you go for a walk or a hike, or even take a camping trip and devote a few days to immersing yourself in the great outdoors, this can be a hugely restorative activity.
After all, not only do you get access to all that fresh air, and natural sunlight but you get the experience of being surrounded by beautiful vistas and landscapes. Then there are all the unusual flora and fauna to discover as well, something that can do a lot to clear one’s mind and life one’s spirit.
The great thing about being a California resident is that, of occurs, there are so many beautiful natural spots to visit. There is the fantastic Yosemite National Park where you can walk around the towering sequoias, or there is the beautiful Lake Tahoe. Treat yourself to a stroll along one of its many beaches, or if you are looking for something a little more challenging why not hike the Tahoe rim trail?
Be a searcher
When modern life gets confusing, and our minds are muddled by multiple inputs, it can be supremely helpful to get some advice on what our purpose is.
There are, of course, a multitude of ways to see this advice and many people are drawn towards the more accepted mainstream religions such as Christianity.
However, others prefer to go down a more esoteric route and search for answers and meaning in things such as Astrology, and Numerology.
In case you haven’t come across them before, astrology is the study of a person’s birth sign and what it indicates about their character and life. Numerology, on the other hand, is the study of the significance of particular numbers that are linked in some way to a person.
For example, in numerology, the number 444 has many meanings such as a reminder that owe need to listen to our intuition,as well as the importance of creating stability in our life. It is, of course, a very complicated area of study, but you can find out more about the meaning of 444 here, as well as the significance of any other numbers that you may be seeing, and this can help you make sense of your world. Something that in turn can help give a real clarity to life that so many of us in the modern day are missing.
There are other ways to facilitate detoxification in life as well as includes complementary therapies. Such therapies such as Acupuncture and Reiki in particular focus on energy in the body and ridding the subject of any negative influences that are blocking the flow of good energy that is necessary for mental, physical and spiritual health.
Many energy therapies are based on the Chinese meridians.
Of course, there are very diverse opinions on whether such therapies have a measurable effect on the body. However as so many people report beneficial results, they might well be something that are worth engaging in, to provide centering, relaxing, and decontaminating oasis in a busy, stressful modern day life.
Lastly, a fantastic way to detox your body and mind is to get creative. How you do this is entirely up to you of course, but remember that you don’t have to be the best artist to get a benefit from this sort of practice.
In fact, if you embrace a form such as mixed media journaling the whole activity is more about having a creative conversation with yourself, learning to make a mess, to play and to not be perfect.
Often, what also happens is that any theme or issue that you are struggling with tends to come out in your work either overtly or in a more hidden way. Something that can help you to understand them better, and deal with them in your everyday life.
Art journaling also has one other detoxifying benefit as it is an excellent method of catharting difficult emotional or spiritual experiences, literally allowing you to get them out onto paper, and thus starting the healing process, and preventing them from festering inside. Now if that isn’t a great way to detox, I don’t know what is!
I noticed that when I started the meditation video my entire body started to relax. Amazing!
