Our heart is one of the most important organs in the whole body. It’s role in our body is to help pump blood around to all of our cells, transporting oxygen to help them function the best they can. During our lifetime our heart can go through a lot of stress and it has to work incredibly hard, which is why we need to take the time to try and look after this vital organ as much as we can. Today we are going to look at just some of the ways that we can keep the heart healthy throughout our lives to keep us fighting fit and strong.
Eat better foods
Like any other way to keep us healthy, the food we eat can have a huge effect on our boy and this is why it is crucial for us to take care of ourselves and eat our greens. There are many sign of heart disease in adults and also signs of heart attack in men, and if you or anyone in your family has suffered with this then you need to make sure you change your diet. Cut down on cheese to lower cholesterol in the body, eat fatty fish to provide the heart with omega 3, and make sure to eat plenty of fibre.
Get out
The most important thing you have to remember as you try to look after your heart is the fact that it is a muscle. Our heart is one of the most powerful muscles in the body and because of this we want to keep it as strong as we can. To do this we can make sure to get enough exercise throughout the week whether it be a hike here and there or a sports class, or working out in your living room at home. Do whatever you can do to move the body and this will help it to heal and make sure that it is strong.
Maintain your weight
This kind of comes as a combination of the first two points, but we are adding it in here because it is super important. If you want your heart to be the healthiest it can be you need to make sure that you maintain a healthy weight for your height. The reason we need to do this is because when we weigh a large amount over our healthy range this puts more stress and pressure on the heart and it can cause our heart to struggle to do its job. Staying lean and healthy is always the best option.
Quit smoking
Smoking is one of those terrible habits which a lot of people have and it is something which we need to stop as soon as we can. The chemicals contained inside a cigarette can cause tar to build up on the lungs and around the heart and it will make it incredibly hard for your heart to pump enough oxygen around the body. If you want to be as strong as you can, it might be time to invest in some nicotine patches.
Control blood pressure and cholesterol
Blood pressure and cholesterol kind of go hand in hand when it comes to our body and it is crucial that we keep our cholesterol down in order to keep our blood pressure at a healthy level. Cholesterol acts as fatty tissue in the body and when we have a lot of it, it travels through the bloodstream and leaves little room for red blood cells to pass and do their work. Enough cholesterol in one place can actually cause a blockage in the artery and this can stop all flow of blood to an area of the body. This can be fatal which is why it is important to eat foods which don’t contain much cholesterol.
Be less stressed
This might seem like something which is nothing to do with the heart, but when we suffer from constant stress it can really have an impact on this organ. When we are stressed our heart will beat faster in order to bring more oxygen to our cells as we shake and move around. If we are stressed a lot of the time this can put a lot of strain on the heart as it will be working double time to keep us alive. Make sure that if you think you are suffering badly from stress that you take time out to relax, go out and see friends and be happy.
