You may be dreading the inevitable, and that is getting older. You might be joining the ranks of individuals that dread aging due to the various ailments, aches, and pains that are always being mentioned. Remember, don’t believe everything you hear in the media. Diet

Your diet is something that should be well thought out when you get older, you may have heard of middle-aged spread and this can start around the age of 40. If you eat too much processed, unhealthy food then you are opening yourself up to weight-related conditions such as diabetes, strokes, and heart disease. Ideally, you should be avoiding big, heavy meals throughout the day and night. These can sit on your tummy and cause a lot of discomfort as your metabolism and digestion slow down in old age. 

Exercise

As well as what you eat, it is important to think about how much you are moving. If your movement is restricted then you need to be extra careful not to cause damage through exercise. There are gentle exercises that you might like to get involved with, these can include yoga, pilates, or swimming. If you are worried about being the new person then you could join an exercise group to combat the nerves. 

Water

Ideally, as an adult you should be aiming to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, this equates to about 2 liters. There is a reason for this, people aren’t just trying to ruin your day. Drinking water keeps everything hydrated and functioning, this includes both your body and your mind. By drinking water you are lowering your risk of cognitive decline, dementia, and Alzheimer’s for instance. You also keep your joints mobile and lubricated when you drink enough water. A downside but an immense benefit of drinking water is that you may find yourself visiting the toilet more frequently. This is absolutely fine, although annoying, as it is clearing out your bladder and kidneys.

If you find yourself experiencing pain and discomfort regularly then it may help you to make an appointment with a specialist. You may have an underlying issue that is causing your pain, after a certain age for example it is far more common to experience arthritis. Finding a doctor who can help with pain may seem a bit tricky, but you want to find the right one. Sleep

Finally, something that can really impact you as you get older is the amount of sleep you are getting, or not getting. Sleep is vital as it gives your body the chance to rest and recover after a hard day’s work. Even if you think you’re not tired, your body will be. You should be aiming for around six to eight hours of sleep every night. Anything less than this, then you could feel the effects of tiredness and confusion sets in.
